Will Chris Hemsworth be making the transition from Demigod to terrorist hunter?
Deadline first reported that CBS Films was eyeing Hemsworth to play CIA assassin Mitch Rapp in the upcoming novel-series turned movie ‘American Assassin’ and now it looks like it’s going to happen — to the tune of $10 million! You could buy a whole lot of Golden Apples with that money.
The movie adaptation would start at Vince Flynn’s 11th novel in the best-selling series. ‘American Assassin’ explains how tragedy transformed Rapp from a college scholar and athlete into a ruthless terrorist hunter for the CIA. Since it’s a prequel it would be a great jumping off point for a potential movie franchise.
As if one mega-blockbuster-franchise actor wasn’t enough, Bruce Willis is in negotiations to play a CIA operative who acts as a mentor to Rapp. Sitting in the director’s chair is Jeffrey Nachmanoff, who has directed episodes of Showtime’s ‘Homeland’, Don Cheadle’s thriller ‘Traitor’ and the pilot for the new NBC series ‘Chicago Fire’.
After five years of trying to turn Flynn’s bestselling series into an even better selling movie franchise, it’s looking like CBS is finally on a role. How excited are you for the Hemsworth-Willis paring? For those of you who have read the novels, do you think ‘American Assassin’ is killer starting point?
